Dúrlas Óg 3-2 St. Mary's (Clonmel) 0-0
There were jubilant scenes in Thurles on Friday night last when the recently formed Dúrlas Óg juvenile club brought their victorious under-12 hurlers back to the cradle town. This was indeed a heartening victory for players and mentors who have put so much work, in a short time, into reorganising the youth of the town, to bring back the first county juvenile title in over twelve years. It should be noted also that almost the same panel were defeated in the under-12 county football final. It is fairly evident that with such organisation the future of our games in Thurles is in capable hands.
This game, played on a well prepared and organised Golden pitch on Friday evening last, displayed tremendous skills for youth of this age while the contest was not too close, it was well contested throughout.
Dúrlas Óg, playing with the wind in the first half, had a comfortable 3 - 2 to nil lead at half time. St. Mary's played their best hurling in the second half and great defensive work by Dúrlas Óg thwarted their every effort.
This was a great team effort by Dúrlas Óg and goalie L. Mullaney had a great game and he was ably assisted by S. O'Shea, D. Purcell, G. Kerrigan, J. Ryan, A. Rossiter, G. Mockler, C. Carroll, T. Sullivan and S. Devaney.
Dúrlas Óg scorers: G. Mockler 1 - 1; A. Rossiter and C. Carroll 1 - 0 each; T. Sullivan 0 - 1.
