Congratulations to our Under 16's who defeated Holycross/Ballycahill by 0-11 to 1-6 in a thrilling Mid 'A' hurling final at The Ragg on Saturday.
We had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half and we led by 3 points to nil after ten minutes.  Conor Lanigan was our scorer.  Holycross replied with two points before Graham Maher, Conor Lanigan and David Fogarty had Durlas Og points to give us a 0-6 to 0-2 advantage. The decisive score of the first half came in the 26th minute when we failed to clear our lines and Holycross found the back of the Durlas Og net to leave a point between the teams.  A Conor Lanigan free was the last score of half to leave the half time score Durlas Og 0-7 Holycross/Ballycahill 1-2.
Holycross opened the scoring in the second half with a point to reduce the deficit.  David Fogarty replied with a Durlas Og point.  Holycross hit the next three scores to take the lead (1-6 to 0-8) with five minutes remaning.  We were under considerable pressure and our defence had to made some timely interceptions to prevent further Holycross scores.  Conor Lanigan struck a point to level the match.  Both teams went in search of the winning score.  Holycross had a great chance from a '65' but the sliothar went narrowly wide.  When the match looked set to go to extra time Conor Lanigan won possession out near the sideline thirty metres from the Holycross goal and with three Holycross defenders around him he somehow got in his shot and it sailed  over the crossbar  to give Durlas Og the lead.  We won possession from the puckout and Kevin Dunne struck a delightful point to increase our lead.  Holycross came in search of a goal but our defence held firm and the full time whistle sounded much to the relief of our players and supporters.
Well done to our players who showed great character to record this victory.  They will play Nenagh Eire Og in the county semi final on the weekend of 1st/2nd October.
