County Peil na nOg Final 2015

DURLAS ÓG……………………..  3-12

MOYLE ROVERS.......................... 4-1

All roads led to Holycross on Sunday morning for the County Peil na nOg final against Moyle Rovers.  This was a very entertaining match with great football being played by both teams.  It was the top class finishing by the Durlas Og forwards that proved to be the difference between the teams. They kicked some wonderful points and the supply of ball from the backs and midfield was of the highest quality with the support play a joy to watch.  Durlas Og led by five points at the interval but they pulled away in the second half to record a convincing win and they will now go forward to represent Tipperary in the All Ireland Peil na nOg finals.

Paddy Creedon opened the scoring with a Durlas Og point inside the first minute.  Moyle Rovers replies almost immediately and in their first attack scored a well worked goal.  Durlas Og thanks to points from Paddy Creedon and Cian Stakelum were back on level terms by the 10th minute. A minute later Joe Dwan soloed through the Moyle Rovers defence and laid off to Cathal Hayes who rifled the back of the net for a Durlas Og goal. Jack Lanigan pointed and then following good approach work by Cathal Hayes it was Lanigan who was on hand to finish to the net for Durlas Og’s second goal. Cian Stakelum added a point before Moyle Rovers finished the half with a goal.  Half time score Durlas Og 2-5 Moyle Rovers 2-0.  The Durlas Og backs were very solid in the first half and their tackling and distribution of the ball were most impressive.

The game was decided as a contest by the 5th minute of the second half. Durlas Og were quickly into their stride and points from Cian Stakelum, Joe Dwan and Jack Lanigan followed by a Cathal Hayes goal had us leading by 3-8 to 2-0.  Moyle Rovers replied with 1-1 to cut the deficit.  Further Durlas Og points from Paddy Creedon (2) and Cathal Hayes (2) gave us an eleven points lead as full time approached. Like the first half it was Moyle Rovers who completed the scoring with their fourth goal coming from the penalty spot. The final whistle sounded and Durlas Og were County Peil na nOg champions bridging a 30 year gap – 1985 was our last title.

This was a very impressive team performance and all fifteen players plus the subs used played their part in this victory.  Darragh Stakelum was very solid and dependable in goals, the full back line of Henry Fogarty, Conor Stapleton and Jordan Fahy marked tightly all through and never gave their opponents time to settle on the ball.  Paddy Stakelum did all that was required at centre back and he was ably assisted by wingbacks, James Armstrong and Ciaran Costello.  Paddy Creedon and Cian Stakelum were both very commanding in the middle of the field and they contributed seven points.  Centre forward Cathal Hayes and full forward Jack Lanigan caused plenty of problems for the Moyle Rovers defence and got vital scores.  The wing forwards Jack Kelly and Joe Dwan and corner forwards, Sean Collins and Eoin Purcell were always dangerous.  Great credit is due to the other panel members for their efforts and many of them played in the qualifying rounds and helped us to reach the county final.
